Sold Out Event FAQ

We have limited seating at our various ticketed author events, and sometimes we sell out.

Read on for tips on attending a sold out Harvard Book Store event, and learn how to make sure you never miss out on another big author talk!

When an author event is sold out, will Harvard Book Store create a waiting list? Or a stand-by line?

While we don’t maintain a waiting list for sold out events, we will usually have a stand-by line at the door. (Please note, there will be no stand-by line for our September 2013 event with Stephen King.) If any seats are still open five minutes before the event begins, we will turn them over to those in the stand-by line on a first-come, first-served basis.

Of course we can’t guarantee that those in the stand-by line will get in, but we are often able to let in some (or all) of those patiently waiting!

How soon should I get there for the stand-by line?

We have no way of gauging this. The more popular the event, the sooner the line begins to form. And again, we can’t guarantee anyone without a ticket can get in, particularly for our most popular events.

What’s the best way to never miss out on another popular bookstore event?

Subscribe to our weekly email newsletter. All ticketed and upcoming events, as well as sales and store news, are announced here.

You can also keep up with our complete list of events at harvardsquarebookstore.com/events, via our monthly events flyer in the store, or using our Google Calendar.

Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for periodic updates on store news and events.

Can I order a signed book for an event I can’t attend?

So glad you asked! Even if you can’t make it to an event, we will do our best to get you a signed copy of the event book. Place an order with our staff—in the bookstore or by phone—or place an order on harvardsquarebookstore.com at least a day before the event (and specify you want a signed copy in the comments field of your order).

We can’t guarantee our author will be able to sign extra books, but we will do our best to get you one!

I bought tickets that I cannot use. Can I return them or sell them back?

Tickets are non-refundable, but keep them! Our $5 tickets are also $5 coupons, and can be used in the store for up to a month after the event. If you bought your ticket online, stop in the store to pick up the coupon anytime in the month after the event.
