Some people buy commemorative baseball programs. Me, I buy this. It hurts to remember, but it's a good hurt because, apparently, I'm not alone. And if misery loves company, perhaps this communal expression of apologetic grief is what will really bring about THAT THING -- that banding-together power-in-numbers tipping-the-scales THING -- that all the feel-good rhetoric in the world hasn't been able to accomplish. Maybe. Or, at least, when I travel abroad over the next four years, I can bring this book with me. And everytime I say, "I'm from America" I can whip this out and pass it around. My individual "sorry" just seems... inadequate.
