The Lannan Foundation has released its list of 1999 Literature Award winners. Awards were given in the fields of fiction, non-fiction and poetry, and a special Lifetime Acheievement Award was given to poet Adrienne Rich.

Winners of fiction awards were Gish Jen, Jamaica Kincaid, Richard Powers, and Joanna Scott. Nonfiction winners were Jared Diamond, Gary-Paul Nabban, and Jonathan Schell. Winners for poetry were Rich, Louise Gluck, Dennis O'Driscoll, and C.D. Wright.
