Harvard Book Store Author Series Presents:
Slavoj Zizek
Harvard Book Store is pleased to announce that on Friday, September 26th Slavoj Zizek will be reading from his new book, The Puppet and the Dwarf: The Perverse Core of Christianity. Slavoj Zizek has been called “an academic rock star” and “the wild man of theory.” Now, in The Puppet and the Dwarf, he critically confronts both predominant versions of today’s spirituality – New Age gnosticism and deconstructionist-Levinasian Judaism – and then tries to redeem the materialist kernel of Christianity. With Zizek’s explicitly political interpretation, this book is certain to stir controversy.
Slavoj Zizek, the subject of a recent New Yorker profile by Rebecca Mead, is a philosopher, Lacanian psychologist, and Senior Researcher at the Department of Philosophy, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. He has also been a visiting professor at Columbia University, Princeton, University, and the University of Michigan. His books include Welcome to the Desert of the Real, Did Someone Say Totalitarianism?, The Plague of Fantasies, and Tarrying with the Negative: Kant, Hegel, and the Critique of Ideology. |
