Strobe Talbott with guests Harold Koh, and Paul Bracken Boston Public Library, Rabb Hall Edited by former Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott and Nayan Chanda, The Age of Terror brings together members of the Yale University's Center for the Study of Globalization to examines the considerations and objectives of policy decisions in post-September 11 America. While the resolve to do whatever necessary to combat terrorism will remain undiminished, a great debate has already begun: What exactly is to be done? The answer will depend, in large measure, on the answer to a prior question: What happened here and why? Our panel will be moderated by Strobe Talbott, Director of the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization, Deputy Secretary of State from 1994 until 2001, and prior to that twenty-one year journalist for Time magazine. Participants in the discussion will be: Harold Koh, Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor in the Clinton Administration, who looks at the danger that democrary, civil society, human rights, and even the rule of law will fall victim to the campaign against terrorism; and Paul Bracken, Professor of management nad political science, who addresses the need to re-think what constitutes security and how it can be acheived. This discussion will be held at the Boston Public Library, in the Rabb Lecture Hall, on Thursday, January 17th at 6:00. No tickets are required. |
