Harvard Book Store Author Series Presents:
Jonathan Rosenberg and Zachary Karabell
Harvard Book Store is pleased to announce that on Friday, October 10th Jonathan
Rosenberg and Zachary Karabell will be talking about their book,
Kennedy, Johnson, and the Quest for Justice: The Civil Rights Tapes. Until now, the story of
Civil Rights has usually focused on protests, violence, and marches. This ovum, by focusing
exclusively on meetings and conversations concerning civil rights in America, offers an unparalleled
understanding of how presidential policy was formed during a convulsive era. And it draws a fascinating
portrait of power and responsibility in the hands of two very different men. The book includes
historic audio recordings of Kennedy and Johnson discussing civil rights and the authors will
play excerpts during the event.
Jonathan Rosenberg received a Ph.D. in history from Harvard University. He is the author of the forthcoming “How Far the Promised Land?”: World Affairs and the U.S. Civil Rights Movement from World War I to Vietnam. Zachary Karabell, who also received a Ph.D. in history from Harvard University,
is the author of several books, including The Last Campaign: How Harry Truman Won the 1948 Election.
