Robert D. Putnam & Lewis Feldstein
Harvard Book Store is pleased to announce that on Thursday, September 18th Robert D. Putnam and Lewis Feldstein will be reading from their new book, Better Together: Restoring the American Community. In his national bestseller Bowling Alone, Robert D. Putnam decried the collapse of America’s social institutions but declared that there were hopeful signs of community renewal. Now, in Better Together, he and co-author Lewis Feldstein describe how all across America people are trying to revitalize our civic spirit.
Robert D. Putnam the Peter and Isabel Malkin Professor of Public Policy at Harvard University, is the founder of The Saguaro Seminar: Civic Engagement in America, a program that has brought together leading practitioners and thinkers for a multi-year discussion to develop broad-scale, actionable ideas to fortify our nation's civic connectedness. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, a Fellow of the British Academy, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a former president of the American Political Science Association. A former Dean of the John F. Kennedy School of Government, he has also served as Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Director of the Center for International Affairs, and Chairman of the Department of Government at Harvard University. Mr. Putnam is the author or co-author of ten books, including the best-selling Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community.
Lewis M. Feldstein is president of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Global Citizens Circle and National Center for Family Philanthropy, and co-chaired the Harvard University/Kennedy School Executive Seminar “Civic Engagement in America” for three years. |
