Harvard Book Store Author Series Presents:
Tracy Kidder
Harvard Book Store is pleased to announce that on Wednesday, September 17th Tracy Kidder will be speaking about his new book, Mountains Beyond Mountains: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, a Man Who Would Save the World. At the center of this wonderful book stands Paul Farmer, a Harvard professor, a renowned infectious-disease expert and anthropologist, a man who refuses to accept conventional wisdom about what is possible and who practices more than he preaches. Moving from Harvard to Haiti, to Peru, Cuba, and Russia, Mountains Beyond Mountains reveals how change can be fostered through the story of one man doing all he can to heal the world. The author will be in conversation with the subject of his book, Dr. Paul Farmer. Paul Farmer, co-founder of the international health organization Partners in Health and the Institute for Health and Social Justice, has helped revolutionize health care for people in third-world countries. He is the author of Aids and Accusation, The Uses of Haiti, Infections and Inequalities, and the forthcoming Pathologies of Power.
Tracy Kidder received both the Pulitzer Prize, and the American Book Award for The Soul of a New Machine. He is a contributing editor of The Atlantic Monthly, and the author of the bestselling books House, Among Schoolchildren, and most recently, Hometown. He is a graduate of Harvard University and the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, and a veteran of the Vietnam War. He lives in Williamsburg, Massachusetts, and in Maine. |
