Matthew Battles

Harvard Book Store is pleased to announce that on Friday, September 19th Matthew Battles will be reading from his new book, Library: An Unquiet History. Writing from the unique perspective of a rare books librarian, Battles takes readers on a spirited foray from Boston to Baghdad, from classical scriptoria to medieval monasteries, from the Vatican to the British Library, and explores how libraries are built and how they are destroyed.

Author Biography:

Matthew Battles works at the Houghton Library, the rare books library at Harvard University, and is the coordinating editor of the Harvard Library Bulletin. His essays and criticism have appeared in the Boston Book Review, the London Review of Books, and Harper's Magazine. He lives in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts.
