Name Our Book Machine! Contest
Harvard Book Store will soon welcome a new addition to our family.
On September 29th, Harvard Book Store will unveil, on its premises, a state-of-the-art Espresso Book Machine. Working with digital files, the machine can print a 300-page paperback in roughly four minutes. With this cutting-edge equipment, Harvard Book Store will be able to print millions of public domain and out-of-print titles, as well as work with authors to bring their writing into book form. But we need your help. As we prepare for the arrival of the machine, we’re stumped by what to call it. Calling this remarkable piece of machinery “The Book Machine” just sounds so…cold. So we’re asking for our community’s help in naming our new book-making robot.* Submit your book machine name to bookmachine@harvardsquarebookstore.com by September 24th and, if your entry is selected, you’ll be eligible to any six public domain or print-on-demand books in our catalog, printed straight off the machine. The winner will also receive public recognition at our unveiling ceremony on September 29th.

*A few pointers: Harvard Book Store staffers (the contest judges) are unabashedly entertained by the flagrant use of puns, as well as by silly and/or obscure literary references. We’re looking for something warm, yet snappy, a name that explains and illuminates the book machine’s many uses and possibilities yet is still suitable to shout across a crowded store. Did I mention we also like puns?
